VISIT OF THE FIRST LADY (Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, CON) TO NIPSS

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, commissioned the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Gender Centre of Excellence at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. The Centre, named in her honour, is dedicated to advancing gender equity, empowerment, and security through evidence-based research, capacity building, and strategic partnerships that mainstream gender perspectives into public policy and governance.
The event drew a distinguished audience, including the wife of the Vice President, the wives of the Deputy Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as the Chief of Staff to the President. Also in attendance were the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, the wife of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, the Chairman of the NIPSS Board of Governors, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Ken Nnamani GCON, traditional rulers, senior government officials, and development partners.
In his welcome address, the Director-General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, expressed profound appreciation to the First Lady for her visit and for graciously accepting the honour. He acknowledged the invaluable support of partners such as the MacArthur Foundation, the Development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC), and the Ministry of Defence for their role in establishing the Centre, describing it as a milestone in promoting inclusivity and gender equality in Nigeria.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Governor of Plateau State, royal fathers, and representatives of development partners, all reaffirming their commitment to supporting the Centre’s mission to foster inclusive governance and gender-responsive policies through research and advocacy.
In her remarks, the First Lady and Special Guest of Honour, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing the Centre as both an honour and a call to responsibility. She noted that the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Gender Centre of Excellence would serve as a beacon for breaking stereotypes, building capacity, and creating equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
