LEGAL SERVICES UNIT

     The Legal Services Unit is responsible to the office of the Director General. The Unit houses the Institute’s In-house Counsel, whose primary object is to serve the interest of the Institute within the requirements of the Law. This department generally oversees all legal internal and external matters including litigation, investigation, compliance, contract matters, etc. The Office is also responsible for structuring joint enterprise between the Institute and other organizations, whilst guiding Management on regulatory and compliance matters.

 FUNCTIONS OF THE UNIT


The Legal Unit reports directly to the Director General and is responsible for;

a.     Preparing, Drafting, vetting and filing all Legal Documents/Instruments of the National Institute, such as Contract Agreements, Memorandum of Understanding, etc;

b.     Representing NIPSS with the External Legal Retainer in  Superior Courts during Litigation involving NIPSS;

c.     Advising NIPSS on all aspects of Legal Matters, including the formation, execution, and review of Legal Policies and Programs as they affect NIPSS;

d.     Serving on Sensitive Committees such as the AP&DC, Tender’s Board, and Procurement Planning Committee of the National Institute;

e.     Ensuring the Institute complies with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, NIPSS Act, and other applicable laws.

f.      Conducting and executing due diligence on organizations seeking to collaborate and partner with the Institute;

g.     Serving as secretariat of the National Institute Ventures Limited;

h.     Directing on disciplinary procedures to be taken in staff matters, to avoid litigation by disgruntled staff;

i.      Providing legal support services to other Departments/Units in the Institute;

j.      Administration of Inaugural Oath to Participants of the Senior Executive Course; and

k.     Any other duty as may be assigned by the DG/SDA
