SPORTS COMMISSION CHAIR CALLS FOR STRATEGIC INVESTMENT IN ORANGE ECONOMY AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

The Chairman, National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has called for increased strategic investment in Nigeria’s sports sector as a catalyst for economic growth and sustainable development. Dikko made the call while delivering a lecture to participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, on Friday, 27 March 2026.

Speaking on the topic “The Orange Economy and the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigerian Sports Economy (RHINSE) for Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” he highlighted the vast potential of the orange economy, particularly the sports sector, in driving job creation, youth engagement, and revenue generation.

He emphasised the need for deliberate policy direction, sustained investment in infrastructure, and stronger public-private partnerships to unlock the full value chain of the sports industry. According to him, initiatives such as RHINSE provide a strategic framework for repositioning sports as a key contributor to Nigeria’s broader economic development agenda.

The lecture forms part of NIPSS’s ongoing efforts to promote high-level policy dialogue and equip senior executives with innovative strategies for national transformation.
