The Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Professor Ayo Omotayo, has described pension as a critical component of staff welfare, stressing that it should be treated as a right rather than a privilege.
He made the comment during the Pension Clinic organised by the Institute on March 25, 2026, at the Directorate of Research Auditorium. The clinic was hosted by the Centre for Financial Economics in collaboration with the NIPSS Pension Office.
The event brought together officials of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) and representatives of various Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), providing a platform for participants to seek clarification, resolve issues, and gain deeper understanding of pension processes and retirement benefits.
The clinic featured presentations on retirement planning, pension entitlements, and wellness in retirement, alongside interactive sessions that enabled direct engagement between participants and pension administrators.
The initiative reaffirmed NIPSS’s commitment to staff welfare and its proactive approach to addressing pension and retirement concerns, while strengthening confidence in the pension system among staff and retirees.
The clinic recorded participation from both serving and retired staff, with provisions made for physical attendance and virtual participation.
